March Madness....or March Sadness??

Did you just see Texas & LSU in overtime? Whew! Texas's 3 pointer with just seconds left in the game had me LOVING the Orange! Unfortunately, they choked in overtime and missed some other strategic 3-pointers. Dang it. That eliminates one of my teams in the final game.

So, as I've been recently informed, it is now "mathmatically impossible" for me to win the "2006 PIONEERS March Madness NCAA Bracket Tournament."

Hmmm. I better go practice my dart playing. Maybe I can win the Mobilization Dart League Tourney. Nevermind that I was out in the first round of the "1st Annual 8 Round Low Score Mobilization Tour Dart Tourney" last fall. I'm feeling a comeback. Make room for the novice, boys. I need to practice.

Random thoughts

1. My bracket is sorely losing in 12th place out of about 25. Next year, I'm throwing statistics out the window.

2. One of my staples in my pantry: Cup-O-Noodles. Yum, it's so good, especially when you slurp it while using chopsticks. It really does taste better that way. :) And I can knock out my sodium intake for a year in just one meal.

3. I've only watched this season's American Idol once, but one of the contestants was in my dream last night. What is that about?

4. You should really go to seminary. Preferably RTS. :) It's so great.

5. I love my family. They're really super fun. Do you know them?

Ouch

Kansas is out. There goes one of my final four.

That's gotta hurt my bracket....

Bracketology

Can I just say I LOVE this time of year! It's March, baby, and let the Madness begin!!

Is anybody else out there following this year's NCAA tournament? We have a pool at the office, so that makes it fun. This year, I decided to do my homework and I scoured ESPN's website for articles and statistical information that would help my otherwise blind choices. I feel like I've graduated to a new level. And I've got something to talk about with the 7 men I share an office with. :)

So, what 'cha got? I hate to report that I succombed to pressure and picked UConn as the champ. I would have liked to pick a wild one, a higher-seeder, something that no one else could have imagined....but, hey, I'm not that good. And UConn is slated to win by many a wise fellow. I did follow the tip that it's super rare for more than two #1 seeds to make it to the Final Four, but I stayed safe with the lower seeds in general. I'd be happy to see UConn, FL, KU, and Texas in the final four. Any objections?

Today was a rough start. Nevada and Seton Hall failed me. Marquette fell to Alabama. In the middle of all my hoopin' and hollarin', I injured my shoulder in some funky move during the SECOND OVERTIME of the Pacific vs. Boston College duel. But wasn't that amazing? Go BC! Way to hang in there. (Although Pacific could have taken it home several times.)

We'll see what these other jokers do tonight. Yah-eh!

Dancing Queen

February 25, 2006 ---- my 24th Birthday. The actual day wasn't so hot. I had a great time representing PIONEERS at the Fusion+Orlando Conference (www.rightnow.org;www.fusionconferences.com), but it wasn't the best way to spend a birthday. Maybe I was still recovering from the night before...

My roommate Kim celebrated her birthday a few days later, so we had a whopping party on Friday night the 24th. Seriously...did you know RTS students like to sing karaoke?? This was my experiment: after all my dreaming, I decided I really really wanted a karaoke party. Will people sing? Will people enjoy themselves? Will they even come? Kim, Angela, and I were willing to give it a shot.

MORE FUN!

Noriko and I finishing the night on a high note

Mel, Alanna, & Angela (roommate) rock'n out

Go Jess! --okay, time out: this girl really gets the crowd going and made me laugh to tears at her Rolling Stones rendition with a thick Alabaman accent

A very flattering picture of Kim & I blowing out the candles on our Birthday Cookie...right before the balloon almost caught on fire.

Engaging in Pop Culture

Yep. I'm a big fan of EXTREME MAKEOVER: Home Edition. Great show. Great Biblical principles. Fun designers. (No...I'm not obsessed with Ty.) So when I heard they were filming in Orlando, my roommate and I went to cheer them on.

As it turns out, my Dad worked on this job! Let me brag on my Dad for bit...He is really cool. Not only can he pick an amazing guitar string --along with the mandolin, banjo, and bass--, he has mad art skills. This man is really talented. (can I get some of that?)

The best way I can describe my Dad's job is architectual illustration. (S.Reed, is that right?) When I was a child, he would tell me he draws houses all day. :) Really, he draws the finished product of what the architect designed. And he mostly works with residential design.

Now some of you may be thinking, "Oh yeah, I've heard of CAD." Yeah, but have you ever met my Dad? He's old school. This is no CAD-graphic design-computer program. It's real, live pen and ink, marker for a color job, and maybe a little watercolor if you're special. Amazing!

Wanna see some of his work?

That's me in front of a poster at the EM:Home Edition site. This was the house ABC built for Sadie Holmes and her five children. She is an inspirational woman who got clean after years of drug use and now runs a non-profit helping the poor and needy in Seminole County. ABC tore down her shack (truly) that she called home and office and rebuit a huge home and separate office space on this property. And my Dad drew this!!

Well, Dad pulled a few strings and got me and a couple of friends some VIP passes to the EM: Home Edition site. Thanks, Pop. We walked into the VIP tent and immediately went over the see the posters and take these pictures.

Here's me in front of the poster with Dad's logo on it.

While we were taking pics, this guy who was obviously working there, walked up and said, "I want to take my picture with you." ???

Kim and I looked at each other, at him, and both said, "Who are you?" "It doesn't matter," he said, "take the picture."

"By the way, I'm Dustin." ...and then he left. Yeah, we were all confused and racking our brain to figure out who he was.

A few minutes later, as we were checking out the house from a safe distance inside a very secure tent, someone said to us, "Excuse me, who are you with?" We turned to find a lady wearing a Mercedes Homes shirt. I answered, and then she proceeded to say she couldn't believe we got past security with sandals on and we had to leave. We could NOT under any circumstances be on the site without closed-toe shoes on. Okay, first of all, we did not have to wear safety helmets. Second of all, we signed a waiver. Third, we went through several layers of security. And fourth, the other guests five steps outside the VIP tent definitely had open-toed shoes. But, whatever. She was following us to make sure we were leaving. (we made sure to grab all the free food and drinks we could on the way out)

As we proceeded to leave, we passed our little picture friend talking to the crowd and I said, "Bye Dustin." He looked at us and said, "Why are you leaving...you just got here, didn't you?" We told him the story and he said, "wait here", followed by some talking in his secret microphone. Now we were super intrigued. Who is this guy?! He looks like he's got a bullet-proof vest on and works for the secret service.

A few minutes later, he came back and let us through. Whoever he was, Dustin was important. The lady from earlier eventually came back and apologized and said "some people the rules just don't apply to." !! haha What did Dustin tell her?

Stickin' it to the man.

Hanging out in the VIP tent with Nicole and Kim.

Monday: nothing but the concrete slab.

Wednesday: all the worker ants getting the job done. This picture was taken from the same spot as the one above. They really worked fast!

Look closely and you can see Designer Paul DiMeo!

Designer Preston Sharp - we don't think he was having a very good day.

And.....

Sexy Ed Sanders. Gotta love the British accent.

It was a super fun experience, I have to admit. And Happy Birthday to me! This was just a few days before my special day... (more pics to come)
